Empirical Testing. Zero Speculation.
We operate an independent wood and ergonomic testing lab. Every standing desk, plywood board, and material grade in our database undergoes an extensive scientific assessment before we publish.

Core Evaluation Protocols
A closer look at the scientific tests and standardized experiments conducted inside our lab.
1. Formaldehyde Emission Chamber
Formaldehyde is a primary concern in engineered wood (MDF/particle board). We isolate desktop samples in a custom-built, hermetically sealed 1m³ stainless steel chamber for 24 hours under constant temperature (25°C) and relative humidity (50%).
Methodology
EPA TSCA Title VI & CARB Phase 2
0.05 ppm
Safety threshold limit (desks over this are flagged)
2. The Wobble Displacement Rig
We raise each standing desk to its maximum programmable height. A calibrated mechanical actuator applies a standardized 20 Newtons of force horizontally. A high-precision digital indicator records displacement in millimeters.
Methodology
BIFMA X5.5 Stability Standards
< 1.0 mm
Elite performance target (virtually imperceptible sway)
3. Janka Surface Hardness Test
Using a hemispherical steel ball of 11.28mm diameter, we measure the exact force required to depress the ball exactly half its diameter (5.64mm) into the wood top. This determines resistance to dents and general impact wear.
Methodology
ASTM D143 Wood Hardness Spec
1,200+ lbf
Target rating for heavy-duty commercial desktops
4. UV & 500-Cycle Abrasion Scan
Desktops are exposed to intense UV-C rays for 100 hours to test colorfastness, followed by a Taber Abraser test using CS-17 abrading wheels for 500 cycles to evaluate scratch-resistance of polyurethane or lacquer coatings.
Methodology
ASTM D4060 Finish Abrasion
< 50mg loss
Standard limit for high-wear wood furniture finishes
Precision Lab Equipment
Force Gauge
Peak 500N
Measures lateral and front-to-back wobble at max height under standardized force.
Janka Ball Tester
11.28mm Ø
Determines surface hardness by measuring force to embed a steel ball 5.64mm into the wood.
Emission Chamber
1m³ Sealed
Tests formaldehyde and VOC emissions per EPA TSCA Title VI methodology.
Decibel Meter
Class 2
Records motor noise at 1m distance during height adjustment across full range.
Moisture Meter
Pin-Type
Checks wood moisture content to predict warping and cracking risk over time.
Load Testing Rig
Custom 500lb
Verifies manufacturer weight capacity claims with calibrated dead weights.
Speed Timer
Digital
Measures exact travel speed (inches/second) from sitting to standing height.
Accelerometer
3-Axis digital
Measures high-frequency micro-vibrations on the desk surface during normal typing sessions.
