Vari Electric Standing Desk

Expert Review

Vari (formerly VariDesk) built its reputation in corporate offices, and the Electric Standing Desk is their flagship sit-stand solution. This is the desk you'll find in Fortune 500 cubicles — and for good reason.

Material Quality: The desktop uses a high-pressure laminate (HPL) over a commercial-grade MDF core. While it's not wood, the HPL surface is arguably the most practical desktop material we've tested: scratch-proof, stain-proof, heat-resistant, and easy to sanitize. The dark finish options look convincingly like real wood from arm's length. Density measured 690 kg/m³ — excellent for a laminate composite.

Frame & Stability: Vari's T-leg frame is overbuilt in the best way. The legs are thicker than competitors, and the crossbar provides excellent lateral rigidity. Our wobble test measured just 0.9mm — second only to the Uplift V2. This desk feels planted at any height.

Motor & Assembly: The dual motors are smooth (45dB) with a travel speed of 1.5"/sec. The standout feature is assembly: Vari ships the desk partially pre-assembled, and most people have it standing in under 5 minutes. No joke — five minutes.

The Trade-off: You're paying a premium ($695) for laminate. That's a valid criticism. But if you prioritize durability, easy maintenance, and workspace-grade build quality over natural wood aesthetics, the Vari is hard to beat.
