IKEA BEKANT Standing Desk
IKEA's flagship electric standing desk — Scandinavian minimalism with a 10-year warranty and easy in-store pickup.

Expert Review
The IKEA BEKANT is probably the most widely-owned electric standing desk in the world, thanks to IKEA's global retail presence. But is popularity the same as quality? Let's find out.
Material Quality: The desktop uses a birch veneer over particleboard — a standard IKEA construction. The veneer is thin (0.3mm) but creates a pleasant Scandinavian aesthetic. Density measured 600 kg/m³. The surface finish is a clear acrylic lacquer that's smooth but not particularly durable — we saw visible scratches after our 200-cycle abrasion test.
Frame & Design: The BEKANT uses a distinctive square-leg design that's clean and minimal. However, stability isn't its strong suit — our wobble test measured 2.8mm at max height. The desk has a characteristic "sway" that BEKANT owners learn to live with. The round and curved desktop options are aesthetically unique, though.
Motor Performance: The single motor is slow (0.6"/sec — the slowest we've tested) and relatively loud (52dB). It feels underpowered compared to modern dual-motor desks. The height adjustment uses two buttons rather than presets — there's no memory function on the standard model.
The IKEA Advantage: What IKEA offers that Amazon brands can't: in-store testing, same-day pickup, easy returns, and that incredible 10-year warranty. If anything breaks, you walk into a store and get a replacement. That peace of mind has genuine value.
Our Take: The BEKANT was best-in-class in 2019. In 2026, it's been surpassed in every technical metric by desks like the Flexispot E7 Pro ($479) and Jarvis Bamboo ($599). We recommend it only if the IKEA warranty and in-store experience are important to you.
