However, the path those panels traveled to reach your supplier is incredibly complex. - Diversify with Domestic Panels: When ocean freight rates are high, domestic poplar-core panels (which travel by rail or truck) become much more cost-competitive compared to imports. Keep relationships with domestic suppliers to hedge your options.
- Build Freight Clauses into Contracts: If you bid on large commercial cabinet projects that will take 6 to 12 months to complete, include a material price escalator clause in your contract. This allows you to adjust your pricing if plywood costs rise by more than 10% before you purchase the sheets.
