Moving Motorized Desks Safely

Motorized standing desks are heavy, precision-engineered products. Moving them fully assembled is the easiest way to bend the lifting columns, damage the drive shafts, or strip the mounting bolts out of the wooden top.

Follow this checklist to move your desk without causing structural damage.

5-Step Disassembly Guide

  1. Lower to Minimum Height: Before unplugging anything, run the desk down to its lowest height. This collapses the telescoping legs into their thickest, most stable state.
  2. Disconnect the Electronics: Unplug the power cable, control box, and hand controller. Bundle the wires with Velcro straps. Never let the control box hang by its wires during transit.
  3. Remove the Desktop First: Lay the desk upside down on a soft blanket. Remove the screws securing the metal frame to the wood. Lift the frame off the wood top. Moving them as separate pieces prevents the screws from tearing out of the wood if the desk is twisted.
  4. Wrap the Lifting Columns: The legs contain linear bearings and drive screws. Wrap them in bubble wrap to protect the painted finish and prevent dust or debris from entering the column joints.
  5. Protect the Wood Edges: Use cardboard corner protectors on the wooden top. A minor drop on a corner can split the veneers of a plywood or solid wood desk top.
