Eliminating Desk Shake

A shaking monitor while you type is the most common complaint among standing desk users. Desk wobble is usually caused by mechanical tolerance issues in the frame or the desk's physical setup.

3 Main Sources of Wobble

  1. Loose Mounting Bolts: Check the screws that connect the steel frame to the wood top, and the bolts connecting the lifting columns to the feet. Over time, motor vibrations can loosen these fasteners. Tighten them once a year.
  2. Leg Column Slop: Heavy-duty desks have 3-stage telescoping legs. If the plastic guide shims inside the steel columns wear down, it creates slop (gaps) between the stages.
  3. Floor Incompatibility: Soft carpet padding or warped wood floorboards allow the desk feet to rock. Place a rigid mat under the desk to solve this.
